Benefits of Dance Movement Therapy for Menopause
Cessation of menses for complete one year and thereafter is called as Menopause . It occurs around the age of 45-50 years. The process of Menopause is long and can be exhausting for women. Even though it is said that menopause is cessation of menses for complete one year , then too the process of menopause begins 3-4 years prior and this period is called as Perimenopause.
Here are some of the benefits that one can gain, by practicing Dance Movement Therapy
Emotional Expression: DMT provides a creative outlet for women to express their emotions and feelings, which can be particularly helpful during the emotional ups and downs of menopause.
Stress Reduction: Engaging in dance and movement can reduce stress and anxiety, helping to alleviate some of the psychological symptoms associated with menopause.
Body Awareness: DMT promotes increased body awareness, helping women reconnect with their changing bodies and feel more in control during this transitional phase.
Physical Well-Being: Dancing can improve flexibility, strength, and overall physical health, which can counteract some of the physical symptoms of menopause like joint pain and decreased bone density.
Social Support: Participating in group DMT sessions can provide a sense of community and support, reducing feelings of isolation that some women experience during menopause.
Hormonal Balance: Although not a replacement for medical treatments, DMT may help regulate hormone levels by reducing stress, which can positively impact menopausal symptoms.
Improved Sleep: Regular movement and dance can contribute to better sleep patterns, addressing one of the common complaints of menopausal women—insomnia.
Do register for the session to experience Dance Movement Therapy and all its aspect. It is time we start building communities and become more aware of ourselves and to what is going on within us.
